Synopsis

This paper examines the impact of inter-generational financial support on the employment of older adults, using CHARLS 2020 data, and through empirical analysis finds that inter-generational financial support significantly contributes to the employment of older adults, especially for younger and rural older adults. Older adults who received less financial support from their children were more inclined to improve their quality of life through employment. At the same time, there are gender, urban-rural and age differences in the impact of inter-generational economic support on the employment of older adults, with a more significant inhibitory effect on the employment of male elderly, and a non-significant effect on female elderly. In addition, the study proposes improving the social security system, utilizing other forms of inter-generational support, and advocating cultural and social support in order to promote the employment of older persons and improve their quality of life.
