Synopsis

The fourth industrial revolution is an initiative introduced by the German Government aiming the digital transformation of manufacturing/production and related industries and value creating processes. Industry 4.0 is a very broad domain which includes data management, efficiency, relationship with customer, production processes and much more. However, a systematic formulation of all these contributions is still lacking. The aim of this paper is to analyze and demonstrate the main contributions published on the topic Industry 4.0 recently, seeking to discover some new aspects in this regard such that the gaps still remaining in the field of literature may be filled. A systematic review of literature of the major academic and research databases has been followed to achieve the aim of this paper. Future research directions provided in this paper may be helpful for the researchers who are willing to proceed further in this field. Finally, it is discussed if Industry 4.0 is really a disruptive concept or simply a natural incremental development of industrial production systems.
